Voyager de manière éco-responsable : mes conseils pour des aventures plus durables 🌿

Traveling Sustainably: My Tips for More Eco-Conscious Adventures 🌿

écrit par Marion BRIS

As a mountain enthusiast and creator of hiking signs, I have a deep connection to nature. My hikes, whether in the Pyrenees or the Alps, have taught me one essential thing: we are guests in a fragile environment. Eco-responsible travel is above all about respecting this balance. Here are my tips for reducing your impact during your getaways in nature or elsewhere.

1 Prioritize sustainable transport

Transport accounts for a significant portion of a trip's ecological footprint. When possible, I like to prioritize taking the train to my hiking destinations. 🚂 For example, the TER Occitanie perfectly serves the Pyrenees, which saves me from having to take the car. Once there, I walk or use local transport. You can also opt for carpooling, a great way to share journeys and reduce your carbon footprint.

I recommend you trust Recto Verso, who has gathered all the keys for you to organize your adventures independently, respecting natural spaces and without taking a plane. Method cards for France and Europe

2 Adopt responsible consumption

Traveling also means discovering local specialties. But for your adventure to have a positive impact, remember to support local producers. 🌍 During my hikes, I love to stop at small refuges that prioritize short supply chains and homemade cuisine, like the Wallon refuge in the Pyrenees. When shopping locally, choose local markets rather than supermarkets.

3 Minimize your waste

The mountains often suffer from waste left behind by visitors. My tip: always have a bag to collect my own waste, or even others' if I come across any. ♻️ Also, consider sustainable alternatives: a reusable water bottle instead of plastic bottles, a reusable lunch box, and solid soap to avoid unnecessary packaging.

4 Choose eco-responsible accommodation

More and more refuges, gîtes, and hotels are adopting eco-responsible practices. 🌿 During our getaways, Gauthier and I always look for accommodation that highlights solutions like solar energy, waste management, or the use of local materials. Not only is it good for the planet, but often, these places have a true soul and a story to tell.

5 Respect wildlife and flora

There's nothing more magical than encountering an ibex around a bend in the trail or admiring a field of wildflowers. But these wonders are fragile. Stay on marked trails to avoid damaging ecosystems and keep your distance from animals. A pair of binoculars is perfect for observing them without disturbing them. 🐾

6 Travel light

The heavier your bag, the more energy you consume, whether by car, plane, or on foot. In the mountains, traveling light is almost a philosophy: take only the essentials and opt for durable and versatile equipment. For my part, I like to invest in quality equipment that lasts for years.

7 Share your values

Finally, as a creator of hiking signs, I like to use my products to raise awareness of the wonders of the mountains while reminding people of the importance of preserving them. Our signs are designed to last, just like the memories they embody. Eco-responsible travel is also about inspiring others to do the same. Talk about it around you, on social media, or with your loved ones. Every action counts.

Eco-responsible travel doesn't mean giving up your desire to escape, but simply rethinking how we discover the world. It's a way to honor the landscapes that welcome us, while protecting them for future generations.
